Solid Wood Mantels                               Back  

Our mantels are made from native North American woods. Each is a one of a kind piece with individual grain patterns and character. When wood is cut this thick and dried there will always be some splits, checks, and warping in varying degrees. This only adds to the character of the mantel. We have hand selected each piece of timber, stabilized the cracks, knots, and splits then we hand sanded and finished our mantles to bring out the natural beauty and to insure that our mantels will stand up to a lifetime of use in your home.  

Stabilization is a very time consuming but important process where we fill major cracks, splits, knots and voids with epoxy. This process stabilizes the existing voids and enhances the look of the mantel. After the stabilization process our mantels are finished by hand sanding and applying at least two coats of an oil / polyurethane mixture. This finish produces a high quality, durable clear satin finish that combines polyurethane protection with classic, hand-rubbed beauty. If you should ever scratch or damage your mantel the finish is easily repaired by sanding the area and reapplying the finish. Call us and we will be happy to assist.
